Macao, China (December 20, 2023) – Rescue efforts in northwestern China remain hampered by freezing temperatures following a powerful earthquake that claimed at least 127 lives and injured hundreds more. The 6.2-magnitude tremor struck a remote, mountainous region roughly 700 miles west of Beijing, leaving a trail of devastation and despair in its wake.
Authorities confirmed an increase in the death toll on Wednesday, raising concerns that even more casualties are yet to be found. The harsh winter conditions, with temperatures dipping below freezing, are compounding the already dire situation, hindering rescue efforts and adding to the suffering of survivors.
