Nestlé, in coordination with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, has initiated a recall of more than 440,000 Starbucks-branded mugs due to potential safety hazards. The recall stems from concerns that the mugs can overheat and break, posing risks of burns and other injuries to consumers. The affected mugs were part of Starbucks’ 2023 holiday gift sets and were sold at major retailers such as Walmart, Target, and military retail outlets.
The metallic mugs included in the recalled gift sets were manufactured by Nestlé USA. According to reports from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, there have been twelve incidents of these mugs breaking or overheating, resulting in ten injuries to consumers. These injuries ranged from blisters to severe burns.
The recall specifically targets four holiday gift sets that contained the problematic mugs: Starbucks Holiday Gift Set with 2 Mugs, Starbucks Classic Hot Cocoa and Mug, Starbucks Peppermint and Classic Hot Cocoas and Mug, and Starbucks Holiday Blend Coffee and Mug. Consumers who purchased these gift sets during the 2023 holiday season are urged to stop using the metallic mugs immediately and contact Nestlé for a refund or replacement.
This recall underscores the importance of product safety and highlights the potential risks associated with faulty or defective merchandise. Starbucks and Nestlé are cooperating with authorities to ensure that affected consumers are notified and provided with appropriate remedies.
