Hannah Gutierrez, the armorer on the set of the film “Rust,” has been sentenced to 18 months in prison following the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The sentencing comes after a New Mexico jury found Gutierrez guilty of negligence in loading live ammunition into Alec Baldwin’s gun, which resulted in Hutchins’ death.
The judge presiding over the case criticized Gutierrez for failing to accept responsibility for her actions and noted a lack of remorse during the proceedings. Gutierrez’s sentencing marks a significant development in the aftermath of the fatal shooting that occurred on the set of “Rust” in October 2021.
During the trial, it was revealed that Gutierrez had loaded live ammunition into the firearm that Baldwin used during a rehearsal scene, unaware that the gun contained live rounds. In addition to Gutierrez’s sentencing, Alec Baldwin, the actor and producer of “Rust,” has also been charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with Hutchins’ death. Baldwin is scheduled to go to trial in July, facing legal consequences for his role in the events leading to the fatal shooting.
