In a highly anticipated political showdown, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are set to face off in the first 2024 presidential debate in just two days. Hosted by CNN in Atlanta, this debate marks a crucial moment in the campaign, occurring less than five months before the election. Both candidates have agreed to a new format for the 90-minute debate, which will not include a live audience and will feature a unique rule: their microphones will be muted while the other is speaking, ensuring a more orderly and respectful exchange.

As the debate approaches, significant developments in fundraising and polling are shaping the dynamics of the race. In the wake of his recent felony conviction, Trump has experienced a surge in fundraising, surpassing President Biden in recent contributions. This financial boost is expected to bolster his campaign efforts as he prepares to make his case to voters.

Donald Trump is outraising President Biden following his felony conviction last month.

Meanwhile, a new CBS News-YouGov poll reveals that President Biden maintains a comfortable lead over Trump among young voters. The poll indicates that 61 percent of likely voters under the age of 30 support Biden, compared to 38 percent who back Trump. Key issues driving young voters’ preferences include abortion, climate change, and race and diversity. Notably, 57 percent of young voters identified abortion as a critical factor in their decision, with more than half also prioritizing climate change and racial diversity.

However, the poll also highlights a potential challenge for Biden: voter turnout. While Biden enjoys strong support among young voters, only 66 percent of those under 30 said they plan to cast a ballot in November. This underscores the importance of voter mobilization efforts for both campaigns as they seek to secure crucial votes in the upcoming election.

As Biden and Trump prepare to present their visions for the future of the country, the debate will serve as a pivotal platform for them to address key issues and appeal to undecided voters. With fundraising dynamics and voter preferences in flux, the outcome of this first debate could significantly influence the trajectory of the 2024 presidential race.
