In a tragic incident on April 28, 2023, Jamie Lee Komoroski, 27, drove her vehicle at 65 mph in a 25 mph zone in Folly Beach, South Carolina, while under the influence of alcohol. Her car collided with a golf cart carrying newlyweds Samantha Miller, 34, and Aric Hutchinson, 36, along with two other passengers. Miller, still in her wedding dress, died at the scene, while Hutchinson sustained severe injuries, including two broken legs and a brain injury.

Komoroski’s blood alcohol level was recorded at 0.26%, more than three times the legal limit. She pleaded guilty to charges of reckless homicide, felony DUI causing death, and two counts of felony DUI causing great bodily injury. On December 2, 2024, a Charleston County judge sentenced her to 25 years in prison, the maximum penalty for felony DUI causing death.

During the sentencing, Hutchinson recounted the devastating impact of the crash, recalling his wife’s final words and expressing profound grief. Miller’s father, Brad Warner, conveyed enduring anger towards Komoroski, stating that she had ruined many lives.

Komoroski expressed deep remorse, acknowledging her responsibility and the irreversible consequences of her actions. She committed to dedicating her life to raising awareness about the dangers of drunk driving.

This case underscores the severe repercussions of impaired driving and serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of road safety.
