Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton alleges that these medical professionals administered high doses of cross-sex hormones to numerous minors with the explicit intent of facilitating gender transition. Investigations claim that the doctors employed false diagnoses and billing codes to conceal these prescriptions.
In October 2024, Attorney General Paxton filed a lawsuit against a Dallas-based doctor, accusing her of violating the state’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors. This case marks the first instance of Texas attempting to enforce this law. The lawsuit alleges that the physician provided hormone treatments to over 20 minors, falsifying medical records to obscure the purpose of gender transition.
These developments occur amid a broader national discourse on transgender rights and healthcare. Recently, President Donald Trump signed an executive order instructing federal agencies to cease funding for gender-affirming care for individuals under 19. This order directs agencies to ensure that institutions receiving federal funds discontinue offering treatments such as puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgeries for minors.
Critics argue that such measures infringe upon the rights of transgender youth to access necessary medical care and undermine established medical guidelines.
