days before a U.S. government-imposed deadline that could lead to the app’s ban in the United States. The bid was communicated through a letter addressed to Vice President JD Vance and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. However, insiders suggest that the offer is not being taken seriously by key negotiators.

The U.S. government has set a deadline of April 5 for TikTok’s parent company, China-based ByteDance, to divest its U.S. operations or face a nationwide ban. This action stems from longstanding national security concerns regarding potential data sharing between TikTok and the Chinese government, allegations that TikTok has consistently denied.

Amazon is reportedly making a last minute bid to buy TikTok. Matt Mattenson has more.

In addition to Amazon, other major entities have expressed interest in acquiring TikTok’s U.S. operations. Tech giant Oracle and private equity firm Blackstone have been in discussions to possibly purchase the app. President Donald Trump is expected to meet with aides to discuss a proposal that would involve U.S. investors, including these firms, gaining majority control of a spun-off version of TikTok. Existing investors such as Susquehanna and KKR are reportedly interested in increasing their stakes, with new investors potentially aiding in buying out Chinese interests. The sale is anticipated to be valued at least $40 billion.

Despite the flurry of interest, the Chinese government’s stance on the sale remains uncertain. China has previously updated its export control rules, which could give its authorities a say in any potential sale of ByteDance’s technology to foreign firms. This adds a layer of complexity to the negotiations, as any deal would likely require approval from both U.S. and Chinese regulatory bodies.

As the April 5 deadline approaches, the future of TikTok in the U.S. hangs in the balance. The outcome of these negotiations will not only impact the app’s millions of American users but also set a precedent for how international tech companies navigate geopolitical tensions and regulatory challenges.
