Jillian Lauren, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner and a well-known true crime author, is released on $1 million bond after being shot by police in Los Angeles and charged with attempted murder. The April 8, 2025, incident takes place during an LAPD manhunt for a hit-and-run suspect in the Eagle Rock neighborhood, though Lauren is not connected to the original crime.
According to police, officers encounter Lauren in her front yard during their search. She is reportedly holding a handgun and allegedly raises it toward officers despite multiple commands to drop the weapon. Police open fire, striking her in the shoulder. She retreats into her home before later emerging with another woman and child to surrender. A 9mm handgun is recovered at the scene.
Lauren, 51, is treated at a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. LAPD books her on suspicion of attempted murder, and she is released on bond later that day. Her next court appearance is scheduled for April 30. Authorities continue to investigate the incident and have not yet clarified why Lauren allegedly brandished the weapon during the police search.
Lauren is known for her bestselling memoir Some Girls: My Life in a Harem and her 2021 book Behold the Monster, which documents her interviews with serial killer Samuel Little. Her work inspired the Starz documentary Confronting a Serial Killer. In recent months, she also shared that she had undergone treatment for cancer, including surgery and a full hysterectomy, thanking supporters and her medical team for their care during recovery.
Scott Shriner, her husband of over 15 years, joined Weezer in 2001 and remains the band’s bassist. The band is set to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 12. Neither Shriner nor Weezer has issued a public statement regarding the incident involving Lauren.
The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office has not commented on whether additional charges may be filed. Legal analysts say the case will hinge on whether police body cam footage supports the allegation that Lauren raised the weapon, and whether her actions constituted a direct threat to officers.
The story has drawn widespread attention both due to the involvement of a high-profile author and her marriage to a prominent musician. As the legal process moves forward, public interest is expected to remain high.
