A man is in custody and facing multiple felony charges, including attempted murder and arson, following a fire early Sunday morning at the official residence of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. The blaze breaks out around 2 a.m. at the Harrisburg mansion where Shapiro lives with his family. Authorities confirm that the governor, his wife, and their children were home at the time but were able to escape safely and without injury.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, firefighters respond quickly to the scene and manage to contain the fire before it spreads beyond the immediate exterior damage. Smoke and fire are reported near one entrance of the residence, though emergency responders confirm that the structural integrity of the historic building remains intact.
Video footage captured after the fire reveals charred areas on the property and scorched landscaping near the main entrance. A suspect is apprehended soon after the incident and is currently being treated at a nearby hospital. Authorities have not yet released the man’s name but confirm that he is undergoing a mental health evaluation.
