McConnell Jr. has mandated that the Trump administration immediately lift its freeze on federal spending, ensuring the restoration of funds to various programs and initiatives. This directive comes after a group of 23 Democratic state attorneys general reported that certain funds remained inaccessible, despite prior court orders.
The initial freeze, implemented by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) under the Trump administration, aimed to temporarily halt the disbursement of federal financial assistance across numerous programs. The administration justified this action as a measure to prevent potential fraud and to reassess funding allocations in line with presidential priorities.
However, Judge McConnell previously ruled that the blanket spending freeze was likely unconstitutional, citing significant harm caused by the abrupt cessation of funds.
