Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman has intensified his call for the resignation of Hofstra University’s President, Dr. Susan Poser, citing dissatisfaction with her response to the Israel/Hamas conflict. The controversy stems from Dr. Poser’s reaction to Hamas’ initial attack against Israel, prompting a Vigil for Peace held by Hofstra University last month to acknowledge the loss of life in both Israel and Gaza.
Blakeman contends that Dr. Poser’s response fell short of addressing the complexities of the Israel/Hamas war adequately. In his statement, Blakeman emphasized the need for university leaders to uphold a balanced and unbiased approach, especially on matters of international conflict.
The Nassau County Executive expressed concern that the Vigil for Peace, while recognizing the loss of life on both sides, did not adequately condemn Hamas for initiating the conflict. Blakeman argues that such a response does not align with the values of fairness and justice that he believes should guide educational institutions.
In a press conference held earlier today, Blakeman stated, “It is imperative for our academic leaders to take a firm stance against acts of aggression. Dr. Poser’s response, by not unequivocally denouncing Hamas’ actions, raises questions about her commitment to fostering an environment of unbiased learning at Hofstra University.”
