A beacon of hope in the fight against plastic pollution, the Myplas USA plastics recycling facility in Rogers, Minnesota, is expanding its operations with a focus on flexible plastic film. This new production line, slated to open within the next 18 months, aims to address the critical issue of low recycling rates for this type of plastic.

“Plastic film has the lowest recycling rate in the U.S.,” states Andrew Pieterse, CEO of Myplas USA. “Only about 5% of 15 billion pounds of film is recycled. This problem is huge, and that’s why we are focusing on solving a problem that’s not really being solved by others.”

The new production line will utilize cutting-edge technology to convert discarded plastic film into valuable recycled pellets. These pellets can then be used to create new plastic film products, such as grocery bags, shrink wrap, and food packaging, closing the loop and reducing reliance on virgin plastic.

This expansion represents a significant step forward in addressing the plastic film recycling challenge. Myplas USA estimates that the new production line will have the capacity to process 90 million pounds of plastic film annually, contributing to a cleaner environment and a more sustainable future.

Myplas USA’s success is further bolstered by collaborations with other key players in the industry. Partnerships with major food companies, such as General Mills and Schwan’s Company, provide a steady supply of plastic film waste while also creating a market for the recycled pellets produced by the new line.

The Myplas USA expansion offers a compelling example of how innovative solutions and collaborative efforts can tackle complex environmental issues. As the facility gears up for its new production line, we can look forward to a future where plastic film becomes a valuable resource, not a pollutant harming our planet.
