The latest national poll from Quinnipiac University has revealed a dead heat between President Biden and former President Trump in the upcoming presidential race. Registered voters are evenly split, with 46 percent supporting President Biden and 46 percent supporting former President Trump.
In a more detailed breakdown, the poll also included a five-way matchup that included independent and Green Party candidates. Even in this scenario, Biden and Trump remain tied with 37 percent support each. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. garnered 16 percent support, while independent candidate Cornel West and Green Party candidate Jill Stein each received 3 percent support.
Additionally, the same poll delved into voter sentiments regarding former President Trump’s ongoing Manhattan trial. Regarding charges related to falsifying business records, including a hush money payment to an adult film actress, 46 percent of voters believe Trump did something illegal. Meanwhile, 27 percent think he did something unethical but not illegal, and 18 percent believe he did nothing wrong.
Looking at potential impacts on voting behavior, if Trump were to be convicted, 21 percent of respondents say they would be less likely to vote for him. However, a significant majority of 62 percent stated that it would not affect their vote, while 15 percent indicated they would be more likely to vote for Trump if he were convicted.
These poll results highlight the closely contested nature of the upcoming presidential race and the varying perspectives among voters regarding Trump’s legal challenges.
