Suffolk County authorities are renewing their efforts to identify one of the Gilgo Beach murder victims, releasing new details and seeking public assistance. The remains, discovered in 2011 off Ocean Parkway, belong to a young male of Asian descent who has been referred to as “Asian Doe.” Officials revealed today that the victim died from blunt force trauma, was wearing women’s clothing at the time of death, and may have been a sex worker who had spent time in New York City.

Authorities in New York are asking for the public’s help in identifying one of the Gilgo Beach murder victims with new information revealed today. Scott Pringle reports.

Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney shared a forensic sketch of the victim in hopes that someone may recognize him or provide information about his identity. The victim is believed to have been between 17 and 23 years old at the time of his death, which is estimated to have occurred at least five years before the remains were discovered. Investigators believe the circumstances surrounding his death align with patterns seen in other Gilgo Beach murders, though no official link has been established to the prime suspect in the case, Rex Heuermann.

Heuermann, an architect from Massapequa Park, has been charged with six murders in connection with the Gilgo Beach killings, but District Attorney Tierney has not named him or anyone else as a suspect in “Asian Doe’s” murder. “At this time, we are focused on identifying the victim and understanding the circumstances of his life prior to his death,” Tierney said. “We encourage anyone with information to come forward.”

The Gilgo Beach murders, which began to unravel over a decade ago, have haunted Long Island for years. The bodies of multiple victims, most of them young women, were discovered along the same stretch of highway. The victims were largely believed to have been sex workers, fueling concerns that a serial killer had been preying on vulnerable individuals. The case has garnered national attention, and despite recent arrests, many questions remain unanswered, particularly around the identification of victims like “Asian Doe.”

Authorities hope that today’s announcement, along with the released sketch, will help generate new leads. The search for the identity of “Asian Doe” represents a critical part of the ongoing investigation, with detectives looking into missing persons reports and possible connections to New York City’s sex work industry.

The public is being urged to contact Suffolk County’s tip line if they have any information that could aid in identifying the victim.
