Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign and fundraising events in the Bay Area were met with significant protests from pro-Palestinian demonstrators. The protests reflect growing discontent with the Biden administration’s handling of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

Lara Kiswani, representing the Arab Resource and Organizing Center, voiced the protesters’ dissatisfaction with U.S. policy, stating that many are unhappy with the administration’s stance on the war. Protesters gathered outside Harris’ event in San Francisco’s Mission District, where tensions ran high, especially for those arriving late to the check-in, who faced a gauntlet of demonstrators shouting insults. In contrast, early arrivals experienced a more subdued atmosphere.

The Vice President’s motorcade was also met by a smaller group of protesters in Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood during a fundraiser event.

Despite the heated demonstrations, some attendees at Harris’ events expressed understanding of the protesters’ perspective. The protests highlight the growing tension and polarized views on the Israel-Hamas conflict within the U.S., particularly among communities advocating for Palestinian rights. As the Biden administration continues to navigate this complex international issue, such demonstrations are likely to persist, reflecting the deep divisions and strong emotions surrounding the conflict.
